This interview with YACHT was published on the website months ago now at this point. But it just came out in the street edition of L.A. RECORD, and so it’s as good a time as any to blog about it here. It was a lovely interview of a fun, very smart band.
By the way, if you haven’t read Claire L. Evans’ science blog, Universe, you are billions and billions of kinds of a butt-munch. Go check it out. My science knowledge is pretty decent for a lamebrain who wakes up in his own spittle every morning, but I find this kind of rampant Renaissance (Wo)Manism quite humbling … and inspiring.
Somehow I was pulled into interviewing Tim Heidecker at the last minute for L.A. RECORD. I’m not saying I was unprepared, but I had only about 24 hours to get this together. He and I didn’t have my famous chemistry, and he had no interest in talking about the sexual inappropriateness of David Liebe Hart, but I still got some great answers out of him, largely about his recent album. Read it here.
I wrote one of my personal favorite dating articles for Jazzed this week, and published it today–and it’s about cool hiking spots in L.A.! Guess which one of the four I haven’t personally been to yet.

Oh… and the thing ends with a dick joke! I am such a class act!
Tim Presley puts out SOOOO much work! By the time I’m finished spinning one album, he’s recorded three more!
For the most recent issue of L.A. RECORD, I put out an essay piece on Family Perfume, Vol.1 and Vol. 2.
… these revelations, like his poetry, are buried knee-deep under his beloved layers of sonic sand! At times, I almost wish Presley would tippy-toe out further from his bedroom with this project, even more than he did on the Ty Segall split. Perhaps after four albums in a similar style he’s proved his point, and can safely experiment with slightly cleaner methods? Though then again, with a pedigree that includes Darker My Love and the Fall, I’m sure he’s in no rush to “prove” himself in a studio setting. And songs like “Do you know Ida NO,” which uses pitch modulation to make him sound like a female singer from the Cambodia Rocks comp, show he has plenty of mystery left using the techniques he has on hand.
I got to interview my old friend Drew, who has an amazing new movie out! I had a blast doing the interview: rarely have I been so productive while drinking.
Okay, that’s a lie. I’m always productive while drinking. Booze is my Adderal.
